UNVEILING FAITH

Baca: MATTHEW 14:22-33

Bacaan tahunan: 1 Corinthians 5-8

The disciples got into the boat and set off across the lake ahead of Jesus. After a few miles from the shore, waves came because of a strong wind. They were all scared because their lives were in danger. Around three in the morning, they saw someone walking on the water approaching them. The figure said, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid!" (verse 27). His voice sounded like Jesus, their Master. Then Peter said to Him, "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water" (verse 28).

A human being cannot walk on water. Peter's request was an impossible matter born out of faith in the Lord. Let's reconsider the event. If the waves did not come, the disciples would not be scared. Perhaps Jesus would not hurry to meet them by walking on water so that Peter would not make such a unique request. Here we can draw the conclusion that waves unveil faith. The same happens in our lives. Waves are represented in the form of struggles. From uncomfortable situations caused by difficulties, faith emerges. At that moment, we truly hope for the power of the Lord to work as an answer. We are brought to believe with all our hearts that He is able to perform miracles.

So now, we can have a different view of the struggles that the Lord allows to happen. Gone are the complaints about why God allows difficulties to come. All of it is like waves that unveil faith. Instead, we will benefit from it. Our faith does not die, but it emerges to welcome the great things that the Lord will do soon. There is an opportunity for us to witness miracles.
