Baca: LUKE 2:8-20
Bacaan tahunan: 1 Timothy
Approaching Christmas, I am accustomed to reminiscing about the celebrations and atmosphere of Christmases in the past, even decades ago that I have experienced. I remember the characters that always appear in Christmas events since Sunday School, namely the shepherds and the wise men.
Both of these characters had the same response when they received the news of Jesus' birth. After the shepherds heard from the angel that the Savior, the Messiah, the Lord, has been born in the city of David, the shepherds quickly went to Bethlehem to see what had happened there, as the Lord had told them, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger (Luke 2:15-16). The wise men from the East came to Jerusalem and asked where the new King of the Jews had been born. They had seen His star in the East and had come to worship Him.
The wise men entered the house where the star they had seen in the East stopped, and saw the Child with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshiped Him. They presented gifts to Him, gold, frankincense, and myrrh (Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11).
The Christmas news reminds us of how great our longing and effort is to seek and find Jesus. Jesus is no longer a baby but the Lord in our lives. Have we been seeking and finding the Lord every day through prayer, reading the Bible, and moments of quiet time?
