Bacaan tahunan: Matthew 4-7

Xiao Zheng wanted to have iPad2, sophisticated tablet computer, but no money. One time, this Chinese adolescents read online advertisements that offer money 3000 dollars for people who want to donate their kidneys. Without thinking, Xiao Zheng sell his kidney. After surgery in the hospital, he earned money spent to buy iPad2, notebooks, and the iPhone. For the sake of having gadgets with a lifetime of only 5 years old, he gave up the necessary organs to live many years!

This is the trap of materialism. When the material is considered as the most important thing, people enslaved by it. Anything and anyone can be sacrificed for the sake of it. Lot is an example. He knew that Sodom was not the ideal place to live. The population is "very evil and sin against God" (Genesis 13:12). However, its location on the fertile valley is promising prosperity and success. Lot was hooked. Despite he is already rich, he wanted to become richer. So, he chose to live in Sodom. His wife and children were sacrificed to live in bad neighborhoods. What is the result? Destruction. One day, the enemy attacked. In an instant his possessions gone. His family was held captive by enemies: suffer torture, imprisonment, and death! Fortunately Abram came in handy. Abram even though he was rich, lived in obedience to God and have compassion for others.

Greedy for wealth can encourage us to do something wrong or go to a place that is not supposed to. Materialism is charming and enthrall. Do not let it lodged in your heart and your mind! - JTI
