Baca: 2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-6
Bacaan tahunan: Genesis 22-24
Some people feel capable, then become arrogant with their skills. They try to show off their achievements to everyone in order to gain recognition. However, there are also those who feel unable to do anything, to the point of always refusing whenever entrusted to do something.
In the face of his seemingly self-praising testimony, Paul defends himself. He intends to express his sincerity to the Corinthian church because there were some people who wanted to ruin his reputation. Paul asserts that he does not expect praise from the church, nor written testimonies as desired by false apostles and teachers. Instead of praise, there is nothing more pleasing than the success of genuine ministry in the spirit and lives of those he serves. Paul also says that his ability is the work of God. It means that Paul acknowledges that there is always God's help in everything he can do.
By remembering that the Lord is always at work, it is not fitting for us to be arrogant when able to do seemingly great things. Remembering that it is God's work behind every success of ours, it is only right for us to stay away from the desire to seek recognition and praise. Likewise, it is not proper for us to have an excessive sense of humility when entrusted to do the calling of serving the Lord. Because when we are willing to make ourselves available, the Lord will surely bless. Thus, we give glory to the name of the Lord.
