Baca: MATTHEW 18:21-35
Bacaan tahunan: Acts 21-23
Jesus taught His disciples not only to forgive 7 times, but 70 times 7 times. Jesus knew that for humans, giving forgiveness is a heavy matter. Therefore, Jesus did not emphasize the quantity, but the foundation of forgiveness. Forgiveness becomes difficult when humans seek satisfaction, where forgiveness is only given after seeking revenge. On the other hand, forgiveness can be easy if what is expected is relief in the heart.
Jesus reinforced His teaching by giving a parable about a master who settled accounts with his servants, where in the end the master punished his servant for not forgiving his fellow servant while he himself had been forgiven. Jesus said that the Father in heaven will do the same to you if you do not forgive your brother. By depicting the Father in heaven as the master, Jesus shows that indeed judging and punishment are the rights of the Father, not human rights. The human part is to give forgiveness, as humans have been forgiven by the Father.
Towards every mistreatment by others, Jesus invites us to remember that we have been forgiven by Him. So let us learn to let go of the hurt by giving forgiveness, and entrust the judgment to God so that our hearts are relieved with peace.

JUDGING AND PUNISHMENT ARE THE RIGHTS OF GOD. THE HUMAN PART IS TO GIVE FORGIVENESS, BECAUSE GOD HAS ALSO FORGIVEN HUMANS.
