... Where is the God of justice? (Malachi 2:17)
Bacaan tahunan: 1 Corinthians 14-16
Harold Kushner, a rabbi and renowned writer, once suggested that the age of fifty, men usually have a special desire, that longing for meaning. He also asked himself, "What is the meaning of all that I have, what is the meaning of my life?" He wanted to get the meaning of life. Similarly, Jacob's feelings about the stories we read today.
Jacob has been so long separated by Joseph, his favorite child. Imagine, 22 years! And, so long he seemed to lose the meaning of life. When they met again, their meeting was so touching! Joseph embraced his father's neck and wept on his shoulder a long time (verse 29). The meeting brings heightened compassion, is also a profound relief to Jacob. He said, "Now, so-so I die after I saw your face and know that you are still alive ..." (verse 30). Back view of Joseph is a perfect and "nourish" the soul of Jacob in his old age.
There are times when a person's life is so "bitter" that he sees everything with a gloomy and dismal. Loss, longing for something, hope that has not been reached, a painful past, could be why. In relation with others, whether our presence gives "nutrition" or "nutrition" in the spirit of others, so that their life meaningful again? We can begin, at least from the smallest scope, namely the family. Present yourself in it. Give attention and love is real. We can be a booster for them, to be brave to face and manage all the bitterness of life that may be approached - DKL
