Baca: ACTS 6:1-7
Bacaan tahunan: 2 Chronicles 21-24
A woman who works as a mortician expressed her inner voice, especially when she once handled the body of a poor family that was rejected by the church. Hearing her story, there was a sadness emanating from her voice, at the same time regretting the lack of sensitivity of the church towards the poor. An expression of concern that seems to need to be voiced strongly to every church, especially if we remember that the poor received attention from the apostles in the early church.
The apostles in the early church were once protested because the service to the poor was neglected. Fortunately, this situation did not last long because the apostles responded by appointing seven people to carry out the role of diakonia, so that the needs of the poor could be met. The expression "It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables" also shows that balance is still needed between the importance of God's people receiving sound teaching and diakonia service for the congregation that indeed needs attention together. The goal is clear, so that everyone can be served well, not only in spiritual matters.
Until today, the call of the Lord remains the same for the church to show concern for those who are economically limited. This is the form of "good news to the poor" as Jesus once conveyed (Matthew 11:5). A divine way of life that began in the early church, which needs to be maintained by the church at the end of this age. --GHJ/www.renunganharian.net
