CONFIRM FIRST

Baca: JOSHUA 22:9-34

Bacaan tahunan: Amos 6-9

Someone once borrowed money from me and promised to pay it back. When the due date came, there was no news from him. I waited for three days, still no news, so I messaged him on WhatsApp (WA). Only one check mark appeared, his phone number was inactive when I called. Bad thoughts came to mind and I told my wife. "Don't think badly, try to visit his house and find out," my wife suggested. I followed her advice. When I arrived at his house, he was there. It turned out that his cell phone and motorcycle were broken, his child was sick, and he had no money.

The descendants of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh went to the land of Gilead and settled in their own land as the Lord had commanded (verse 9). When they came to Geliloth, they built a large altar (verse 10). This news reached the Israelites, and bad thoughts arose, so all the Israelites gathered at Shiloh to go to war against them (verse 12). Fortunately, they first sent the priest Phinehas and ten leaders to confirm. It turned out that these three tribes had no intention of turning away from the Lord. They built the altar as a sign for future generations of Israelites (verse 27). This was well received by the Israelites, so the fratricidal war was averted (verse 33).

Get used to confirming first when we receive unclear bad news. We ourselves will certainly not be comfortable when suspected without clarification. Do not like to think badly so that we do not do foolish and harmful actions to ourselves and others.
