BIG FISH

Baca: Jonah 1: 17-2: 10

Then the Lord came upon the determination of a big fish that swallowed Jonah; and Jonah's stay in the belly of the fish three days three nights ever. (Jonah 1: 17)

Bacaan tahunan: Psalm 65-67; 69-70

The Hebrews had a belief that "the world of the dead" that was on the bottom. Yes, far away in the depths of down there. Dark; terrible; far from the presence of God. When Jonah thrown into the Lake is highly dynamic, perhaps he feels that he is being sent to "the world of the dead". Apparently not! A "big fish" swallowing on the orders of God!
Jonah was inside the belly of the fish three days three nights. He realized, was at the Centre of the ocean, he was still alive (verse 3). God is not finished dealing with it. Jonah was not only chased him with "a great storm" (cf. Jonah 1: 17), but also arrested her with a "big fish". Now, he's like a child in his father's hand tightly grips. Jonah is aware, if the "great storm" and "big fish" only obey God, isn't he supposed to obey the call of God? He was recalled to the Lord (verse 7). And, in his second lease on life that Jonah was determined meets her vows shall stand to God in gratitude, Jonah prayed to the Lord (verse 9). It seems even fish belly into a space of silence prayer is not a lonely grave for him.
Do we feel Central are in the "belly of the great fish" swallowed us after huge mistake that we did in the past? Maybe it was the condition of severe pain, the economy was falling, studies that fail, the love that was wrecked, or even je-ruji prison. God is not finished with us. Turned to him and pray, accompanied by the belief that the condition is now whatever it is can She wear precisely as "fish belly" that will return us to the purpose of his Majesty. --PAD
