Bacaan tahunan: 1 Corinthians 1-4
One afternoon, while visiting my grandmother's house, a neighbor seemed busy in the garden beside his house. I asked my grandmother, "He is so diligent cleaning the garden in this hot weather, isn't he?" "That's a sign that he is angry!" my grandmother replied. Oh, apparently he was channeling his negative emotions.
Humans are created with various emotions as part of their complexity. Emotions are a natural response to the situations they are facing. Anger is one of them. It is natural for humans to become angry when they feel unappreciated, treated unfairly, disappointed, experiencing failure, or frustration. However, anger is a negative emotion so wisdom is needed to manage it.
The Apostle Paul also advised the congregation not to sin when anger dominates their hearts. Emotions indeed need to be channeled. However, negative emotions, whether anger, sadness, or fear, must still be dealt with wisely. For believers, the first thing that can be done is to take time to pray and have quiet time. In addition to being an expression of faith, prayer and quiet time can be a means of meditation that trains awareness to accept emotions without judgment. Furthermore, we can express emotions in a healthy way. By writing or speaking (sharing with trusted individuals). It can also be done through physical activities such as exercise. Through art, such as playing musical instruments or listening to music, and through many other positive ways.
