Bible in a year: Job 24-28
Most people associate happiness with pleasant things: success, health, having many friends, and being free from problems. However, what if what we experience is the opposite? Rejected, insulted, disadvantaged, or feeling unappreciated? Is it possible to still be happy in an unwanted situation?
Jesus delivered nine beatitudes that sound contrary to human logic. Being happy when mourning, persecuted, and all depicting situations that are unpleasant from a human perspective. It doesn't make sense to follow them. Because the happiness Jesus meant is not based on feelings or situations, but on the condition of the heart and the relationship with the Kingdom of God. The poor in spirit realize that they need God. The meek choose the path of peace rather than revenge. Those persecuted for righteousness stand firm because they know there is a great reward in heaven. This is the happiness that is born from a heart that is attached to the Lord, not from the comfort of the world.
As followers of Christ, we are invited to have a different perspective on life. We are not only pursuing quick and temporary happiness, but true happiness that grows from character and an attitude of the heart that is in harmony with Christ. When we choose to continue loving when hated, remain patient when rejected, and stay faithful when tested, that's where heavenly joy envelops us.
Are we in a situation that feels far from happiness? Do not give up. Jesus does not promise a life without wounds, but He promises an unshakable joy. Being happy in Christ does not mean an easy life, but a heart that finds peace in all circumstances. --MIA/www.renunganharian.net
